Our vet recommended this product and I am so glad she did! It is much better than the many others I have used in the past. It actually performs better than many others, by also covering both ticks and mosquitos, which some others don't. It provides a significant savings, 70% less, dose per dose, than other topicals (K-9 Advantix) and even more for the Comfortis tablets I had been using. You can't beat that! The dogs don't mind having it applied and I've seen no negative side effects at all. I live in the deep south where fleas are a year-round problem and have tried several approaches. Spraying the yard and the dog was first, but that was time consuming, messy, and not very effective. I used other topicals from the vet, Frontline and Advantage, which were a lot better than the sprays, but also were much more costly and didn't cover all pests. After years of those topicals, one of my dogs developed a skin problem and needed medicated baths weekly. We began to notice fleas again. A careful look at the fine print of the package insert and website revealed that the one we used could be removed by bathing with detergent shampoos. I then switched to Comfortis, a tablet, but felt uneasy about giving an oral pesticide to my dogs. It seemed like they were less active after a dose and once in a while one would vomit bile a few hours after a dose. I like that this product is applied topically and that it covers so many pests/parasites, but especially like that it stays effective after bathing. (To maximize effectiveness, I bathe one or two days prior to applying Omnitrol.) And who can't use the extra savings right now? This is a great product.
