I've heard it really depends on where you live, the flea populations tend to be more susceptible to different things. The Pets Mart vet stopped carrying Advantage and moved onto.. something Shield, or something defender brand, and I tried that on my cat when she had a flea problem and it was as if I hadn't done anything to stop the problem.
Prior to that, and since I tried Pet's Mart's new vet brand (they still carry Advantage in the regular store, but it's much cheaper on Amazon) I've always used Advantage.
The fleas will stop biting almost immediately, so if you have a vocal cat that lets you know it hurts... well, you'll know they're feeling a lot better very fast. The fleas will all die and your cat will almost become a bomb to kill the whole population in your house without any need for an actual flea bomb or weird powders.
I now buy a 4 pack every summer and give 2 drops to each cat, once every 6 weeks and I haven't seen a single flea in almost 2 years and one is typically an outdoor cat.
