Lumino Organic Diatomaceous Earth For Pets 9 oz Review

Lumino Organic Diatomaceous Earth is a powder made of the fossils of microscopic animals. Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is a natural insecticide that works by damaging insects' shells. Unlike the DE used in swimming pools filters, Lumino Organic Diatomaceous Earth is *Food Grade*. It is less finely ground and thus isn't quite as dusty. DE is dusty, so wear one of those masks you bought for flu season last year and keep it out of your eyes.
DE is used in conjunction with vacuuming to get rid of a flea problem without resorting to chemical pesticides. Even some of the "natural" pesticides made from chrysanthemums are neurotoxic to cats.
A small amount of DE can be sprinkled onto the carpet and brushed in. After a few hours vacuum the DE, and many dead fleas, out of the carpet. Like many chemical pesticides, DE doesn't kill eggs or pupae, so controlling fleas is an ongoing project. Mind you, nothing on earth is going to take care of all the fleas in a go. Be sure to discard the vacuum bag immediately so that any uninjured fleas don't come hopping back out into your house.
The bottle says you can apply DE to your pet. I haven't tried that. A cat will lick it off, but it's supposed to be harmless. If you do put DE on your pets, immediately comb out as many fleas as you can because the fleas become very active after application. Some sites say to feed DE to your pet, and there are even DE pet treats. It won't hurt them, but the fact is that DE doesn't do much to intestinal parasites. I see no reason to waste the DE that way. Again, please do your own research, AND talk to your vet.
I will be keeping DE in the house from now on.
